The Aftermath of Arizona's Abortion Ban, The Downfall of Eric Adams, And A Foreign Aid Vote Rundown
News time!
Hello world!
After a quick break, the Weekly Six is back. Join me as we go over six political news stories of the past week (with three of them being related to the recently passed foreign aid bills!).
Let’s jump right into it.
The Aftermath Of Arizona’s Abortion Ban
With no Weekly Six last week, I didn’t get the opportunity to discuss the Arizona Supreme Court’s recent decision to restore an archaic 1864 abortion ban. You know, from before Arizona was even a state. (If you’d like to read a satirical piece I wrote on the news, check it out here.)
A clearly controversial decision (especially in a country post-Roe), the decision is still making political waves.
California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has now even proposed legislation to make it easier for Arizonans to travel to his state to get an abortion. Politico writes that his legislation “would offer Arizona abortion providers an expedited way to get licensed in California to perform the procedure for their patients.”
With California bordering Arizona, this move will be a crucial step in better providing the reproductive rights that millions of Arizonans deserve.
It’s also important we discuss the aftermath brewing in Arizona itself.
