It’s Sunday, folks! That means it’s time for another recap of the week’s news from yours truly. Let’s get into to it!
(NOTE: This piece was written and about to published *RIGHT* before DeSantis announced he was suspending his campaign for president. Please read it from the perspective of that.)
Trump Dominates In Iowa
Last Monday demonstrated once and for all that it’s Trump’s race to lose at this point in the GOP presidential primary. Taking a whopping 51% of the statewide vote, Trump won a historic 98 out the 99 counties in Iowa. Nikki Haley bested Trump in Johnson County, home to the University of Iowa, by exactly 1 vote.
Overall, the results panned out as follows.
(results provided by the New York Times)
This was not the result Haley or DeSantis were hoping for. DeSantis placed all of his chips in the Hawkeye State. An incredible amount of his campaign’s time and money was devoted to this contest and he barely finished in a distant second. A solid performance translating into further nationwide momentum was seemingly his only plan and now he’s shit out of luck.
